Summer–Like the Sun in the sky, the temperatures are high to match. When one walks into the world to be a contributing member of society, it feels more or less like you’re breathing through a wet towel. Through the crowds or up your empty town roads–no matter where you are, dense air weighs on the neck and you’re unable to differentiate the water in the atmosphere from the sweat on your skin. Lately it’s been feeling like that sort of day nearly every day with the embers of sunlight scattered across the clouds, unrelenting in sharing their heat. It’s beautiful in a naturally obnoxious way.

But summer is summer! Many people love this time of year and others loathe it, but the weather undeniably can affect a person in different ways. Some people simply can’t take the heat while others revel in it, or indifference stands just enough to get someone through the day - but when it negatively affects moods and raises pressure, anger can go to the head much easier in the fires of July—Assuming those fires haven’t been drenched by the might of the annual typhoon season that passes through the country. Search & Rescue heroes might be pretty busy this time of year.

Students may be getting ready to take it easy for their summer vacation toward the end of July, but many Heroics students are preparing to intern with professional heroes during this time. It’s a golden opportunity to get out into the field and understand the day-to-day life of professionals, whether wild enough to find itself in the news or just a quiet day among the citizens–every aspect must be understood with no illusions. In this case, intense heat always brings an increase in crime. It could be as simple as a minor argument disturbing the public or a real brawl taking out entire structures–order must stand over chaos! Take notes, kids!

Even without interns under your belt, a pro-hero is always on the clock. July is a busy festival season all over Japan, which, in tandem with the weather, could make a pretty nasty cocktail for disaster if left unchecked. Sometimes, however, many festivals pass without incident and thanks to the heroes and their Symbol of Peace, criminals should probably think twice. Who knows who can pop up, after all...

[ Welcome to/back to Plus Ultra! First and foremost, allow me to link the opening game CR Meme. That may seem weird, but if people want to pre-establish a relationship with anyone else, then this is the place to make some plans (more below). Since this AU is less about being dropped into the world and more about already existing in it and growing from there, this could be a helpful start.

I’ve made this mingle log for July-August because the timing is actually rather awkward if we go by actual Japanese calendars for schools, so it’s to help the student characters more than anything. Last week of July until Aug 25~31 is the summer break for most students and then it’s back to school.

Most pro heroes tend to know others in the market, but anyone can embrace the concept of being “up and coming” as well. This log will be vague to get people started with exploring the world and if you have ANY QUESTIONS, please reply to the FAQ so I can leave it for others to see as well. Enjoy!! ]

Tess had a few minutes to herself between tasks when she was waved to. She cocked her head and looked in the direction of the woman there, seated as if nothing was wrong. She'd lived along the eastern seaboard long enough to know that everyone dealt with these storms differently. It was a little odd to see someone who seemed this at ease, but there were people who just loved stormy seas. Heck, people chased tornadoes. Crazy.

Walking over, she waved back. "You seem to be doing alright. Not injured I hope?" she said in accented Japanese.

Sarah smiled and nodded, "Doing swimmingly pardon the sea side pun." she mused looking to the waters. "Just marveling at the strength and unpredictability of the sea."

Turning back to Tess, they raised an inquisitive brow. "How about you"

She actually laughed at the pun and grinned. It wasn't a toothy grin, the girl never really liking to show off her chompers, but it was still genuine enough. Looking out over the waters, she shook her head to get the chuckle out of her system. Now wasn't supposed to be the time. "Don't worry about it. Some people just cope with stuff like this with a laugh. See it all the time." Her gaze took in the ocean, the push of the waves and she added. "It is something else to watch. Wish I'd gotten here for the actual storm. Riding the currents is ... hard to describe."

But, needless to say, she wasn't some punk kid out on the carolina coasts pretending to be a hero because she was strong enough to fight the currents. Had to follow the rules here. "I'm here as an intern. Helping out with rescue and cleanup. It's always rough this time of year, I hear. You should still be careful, miss. Just in case something goes wrong."

Sarah listened intently, gaze on the girl with interest. "Oh? Is that so? Well I'm sure they appreciate having you around greatly. Every helping hand is a boon they cannot hope to miss out on and if you're interning even more so since your everyday will lead you to whatever path the future holds." Be it whichever path indeed, fate was fickle like that and 'good and evil' were two sides of the same coin, as simple to switch around depending on what receiving end you are on...

She snapped out of her daydream and smiled again, "Don't you worry about me sweetie, I'm fine and it looks like the storm's let off. A pitty, I would have loved seeing the majesty of it's fury."

"Thanks...," That was a little more poetic than she'd expected in a way. But the woman seemed a little unusual, even if she was more than pleasant enough. Tess looked at her for a moment before scanning the beach to make sure nobody was actively in danger. If not, she had a moment before resuming the cleanup. There was no reason to rush off if she hadn't been called on too much today. "I'm definitely going to do my best, and it's a good way to learn, better than most if you ask me."

She coughed into her hand and nodded. "The storm's fury's a little rough if you're not ready for it. I'm pretty durable, but do you have a quirk that protects you?" Most people had something after all.

"Learning never gets old, no matter how long you roam this world there will always be something new and exciting developing and you will always have something new to learn." Knowledge is power don't they say? Truth be told, sometimes they want to challenge that notion, but they'd be lying if they said they didn't love the thrill of learning something new and unexpected.

Looking over the ocean she gave a light chuckle, "Ah no, nothing of the sort I'm afraid. I guess I'm just one of those weirdos who appreciate beauty even in the dangerous things."

Tess, for her part, seemed to have found a bit of time and finally relaxed some. Leaning against the structure on which the woman was sitting, she watched out into the dark clouds far away, nodding in absolute understanding of the second statement. "No, I don't think it's that weird. Risky, but the fury of a storm is like nothing else. I've swam underneath, in the swells and the eddies of the current. The force is incredible."

But she could cheat. She could endure it. "You're right, though. There's always room to improve, and definitely in this. I need to know how to do this properly if I'm going to do it more."

"I'm sure, with that attitude, you'll do just fine." And besides, she liked people succeeding, it was worthless when beings gave up, no fun in that. After a moment of admiring the scenery, Sarah turned to Tess and smirked.

"So, how long do you think you'll need before you go pro? I hear it's an exciting time in this country, and there's lots of requests for more heroes."

"Well, I wish I could go pro right now, but I'm going to go through the whole program. I want to make sure that I learn everything I need to." Not to mention the fact that she wanted the full credentials to be a hero, and it felt like the sort of thing you finished your classes to do.

"It's hard to wait, though, when there's a lot of need."

"All in due time," she mused as she stiffled a light sigh. "Time is more of an illusion really. Don't focus on it and you'll see you will be done with your goals in no time. And then you'll have your full credentials and everything, maybe your own agency."

Fate was odd like that.

"Yeah, see, you're right there. As long as I'm focused on the studies and what I'm doing, not how much I want to be doing the next step? It's a lot easier to take the time I need." She bobbed her head, grinning as she said it. "If you don't mind me asking, miss, do you have a quirk? Most people do, so I'm a little curious."

Sarah nodded as the youth spoke, smile never faltering. At the question however she had to stiffle a small chuckle. "Nothing big, but yes, you'd be correct. I do have a minor one, mostly dealing with dreams of the sort." At least that was putting it very lightly.

"Dreams? That's kind of an unusual power. Do you give people good ones then?" She meant it a little light-heartedly, but she didn't really think that sounded like a potent enough power to remember. More or less a curiosity, not something combat-oriented. The idea of influencing others through dreams didn't even dawn on her.

Subconscious psychology was way above her paygrade.

"In a sense, and depends on the individual anyways. Each person has their own unique psych to them, so the effects... vary." Sarah smiled to the distance, focusing on the horizon. "In any case, it truly is an unusual one and I don't tend to really display it much." Not in some sense anyways.

"Not really cut out to be a hero either, so it's always inspiring to see others aim for that role." It gave them plenty to work with in the long run.

"I wouldn't imagine so. I mean, if it's a dream, someone has to be asleep to see it for one, so it's not something you could just display. And I guess, if you're affecting dreams a bit, it would sort of vary from person to person." A shake of the head and a shrug. "And not everyone needs to be a hero if you ask me. Some of us are sort of suited, but the world needs lots of people, not just heroes, right?"

"Would be a pretty odd world if it was just heroes don't you think?" she mused and smiled over at her. "But very well put young hero~ The world does need lots of people, there usually has to be a balance of some sort, or at least that's what's believed."

Did they believe in that? Who knows.

"One big chaotic battle forever. Hah, if I were a viking maybe that wouldn't sound too bad, but I'm not." She smirked as she said it. "And you're right, as long as we're not saying villains. I don't know that the balance goes quite that far. At least not usually." Some of them probably had a good reason for what they did.

"I wouldn't completely count them out," she voiced a big more softly this time. "Balance is meant to be kept in check by nature, there's no real good or bad, just even sides of the same coin. Sometimes things tilt one way or the other, but they're still part of the same world." she paused for a moment and had to cover a light chuckle.

"Look at me, I seem to be a fortune cookie." she joked before standing up.

"I suppose that's my cue to get moving. It's getting late as it is and I don't want to take your time sweetheart."

She nodded over at the woman and stepped back to look at the others. She'd heard talk of balance before, and it was clear she wasn't entirely sure, but still maybe one man's villain was another's hero... at least some of the time.

"Maybe a little, but they got those fortunes from somewhere. Perhaps we'll see each other again sometime soon?"

Sarah nodded with a light smile. "I am certain we will, especially if you keep on seeking growth like this." she added with a wink.

"Keep on doing great, I'll see you around." and with that, Sarah turned and started to walk off.
