Summer–Like the Sun in the sky, the temperatures are high to match. When one walks into the world to be a contributing member of society, it feels more or less like you’re breathing through a wet towel. Through the crowds or up your empty town roads–no matter where you are, dense air weighs on the neck and you’re unable to differentiate the water in the atmosphere from the sweat on your skin. Lately it’s been feeling like that sort of day nearly every day with the embers of sunlight scattered across the clouds, unrelenting in sharing their heat. It’s beautiful in a naturally obnoxious way.

But summer is summer! Many people love this time of year and others loathe it, but the weather undeniably can affect a person in different ways. Some people simply can’t take the heat while others revel in it, or indifference stands just enough to get someone through the day - but when it negatively affects moods and raises pressure, anger can go to the head much easier in the fires of July—Assuming those fires haven’t been drenched by the might of the annual typhoon season that passes through the country. Search & Rescue heroes might be pretty busy this time of year.

Students may be getting ready to take it easy for their summer vacation toward the end of July, but many Heroics students are preparing to intern with professional heroes during this time. It’s a golden opportunity to get out into the field and understand the day-to-day life of professionals, whether wild enough to find itself in the news or just a quiet day among the citizens–every aspect must be understood with no illusions. In this case, intense heat always brings an increase in crime. It could be as simple as a minor argument disturbing the public or a real brawl taking out entire structures–order must stand over chaos! Take notes, kids!

Even without interns under your belt, a pro-hero is always on the clock. July is a busy festival season all over Japan, which, in tandem with the weather, could make a pretty nasty cocktail for disaster if left unchecked. Sometimes, however, many festivals pass without incident and thanks to the heroes and their Symbol of Peace, criminals should probably think twice. Who knows who can pop up, after all...

[ Welcome to/back to Plus Ultra! First and foremost, allow me to link the opening game CR Meme. That may seem weird, but if people want to pre-establish a relationship with anyone else, then this is the place to make some plans (more below). Since this AU is less about being dropped into the world and more about already existing in it and growing from there, this could be a helpful start.

I’ve made this mingle log for July-August because the timing is actually rather awkward if we go by actual Japanese calendars for schools, so it’s to help the student characters more than anything. Last week of July until Aug 25~31 is the summer break for most students and then it’s back to school.

Most pro heroes tend to know others in the market, but anyone can embrace the concept of being “up and coming” as well. This log will be vague to get people started with exploring the world and if you have ANY QUESTIONS, please reply to the FAQ so I can leave it for others to see as well. Enjoy!! ]

[ School Things ]

[ Wrapping up the school term work with grading tests is like dragging feet for Takumi, especially when the answers filled in are all textbook answers. If students or any teachers/staff run into him he'd be looking more tired than usual, although he'd be more sociable than usual.

When he sees you, he'll gesture at you to approach him... ]

Hey there, you got any free time?

[ Festival: Hero Work...? ]

[ If the test-grading wasn't torture enough for him, he was told to do some hero work for minimum work during summer break. "Watch over the students interning and make sure they don't get into any trouble or injured," they said. Sure, he's a hero, but he was more interested in other things rather than do routine, boring patrol work. But since he wasn't popular enough to get any sidekicks, he's forced to work on his own.

But as soon as he was out on the grounds, he'd quickly relocate himself to any dark, confined places he can find in order to avoid work... Or try to.

Some civilians are noticing his strange behavior and are muttering to themselves, "He's so weird... Should we call the police or some hero...?" ]

School option!

[Lulu was a bountiful stash of energy, so she was floating happily through the halls of school, humming a little tune to herself while dancing a little jig.

When addressed, she perked up with a bright smile and hovered over to the teacher.]

HI! Yes! Yes I do! How are you?!

[ Oh dear, that's one super energetic ball of sunshine there. Takumi scratches his head as he draws out a tired sigh. ]

...Actually, never mind. Do you know if a responsible adult is nearby so I can ask them something?

[ Sorry Lulu, he's already feeling drained from seeing how you're bouncing around and wants to crawl back into his locker. ]

Huh? But I'm free now, what if I never find anyone to help you?! [With a small gasp, Lulu looked even more determined.]

I am ready for whatever task teach! Lay it on me, I can do it!

[ Aw crap. This is such a Bad Idea.

... Then again... Why decline such an enthusiastic volunteerer? ]

...Well, this task requires a tremendous amount of concentration and attention to detail. Do you really think you're up to the task?

[With renewed determination, Lulu made a fist and nodded.]

You can count on me teacher! I can do anything!

[ And without skipping a beat: ] Will you be able to accurately grade tests? Any small mistake's going to cost you.

[This one was new to the school, a recent addition. So she hadn't had classes with him yet, but she still could recognize that he was a teacher. Looking like she'd just finished a run and still toweling off, she cocked her head and looked over at the teacher and bowed in the sort of way that foreigners unfamiliar with the practice did.]

Oh, hello. Sure, I'm free, uh... I don't think we've met yet have we, teacher?

[ Oh awesome, a diligent student working out. Most excellent. ]

No worries, I'm Takumi Hijirihara. I teach Villain Psychology here. Not a super popular class that people'll take, since it's an elective and usually everyone rushes to go get their hero license. Anyways, nice to meet you.

[ Normally he'd have someone else do the introduction for him instead, but there's no one else around at the moment. Plus he really wants to get out of grading papers at the moment and take a nap underneath a sink, in a cabinet. ]

I bet it's not a bad course to have if you're planning on fighting them. Know your enemy and all, but I'm still in my first year so I think it's a little advanced for me. [She shrugged and bobbed her head towards him.]

I'm Tess Donaldson, but you can call me Thresher if you want to. That's the name I picked out, and I hear it's still free. [She was hoping no other shark-themed heroes popped up before graduation, because it was a great name for her look.] It's nice to meet you.

[ It would be an interesting and helpful class to take...when the teacher himself isn't so lazy 95% of the time and the class being treated more of like a self-study class. In fact, the principal gave him a warning last week about possibly relocating him to being just a substitute if he doesn't give at least some content relevant to the class title.

Which is why there's the test papers he has to grade. But that's an explanation he doesn't have to do. ]

Thresher, huh. Good name. [ or so he guesses. He didn't exactly spend time thinking of good hero names during his high school nor he has any creativity thinking of one. ]

I personally think if you want to learn there shouldn't be any barriers. Even if the elective isn't available for you, I'm glad to have a student aide to help out with class materials.

That's what I thought. Pretty sure Mako was already taken after all. [Anything shark-themed would work for her. The look almost demanded it, honestly.] And I...

wait, you mean I could sorta sit in on class if I helped as a student aide?

[Congratulations, buddy. You just found a way to snag a little help for that lazy ass. Thresher was pretty big on getting into this whole hero thing. Even if she was more likely to be in search and rescue, she still wanted to study fighting actual villains.]

[ Oh snap, he for sure isn't going to let this opportunity pass. Time to bullshit more ] Of course. How would an aide be able to help out if they don't know what's going on in the class?

[ Oh, this won't do. Anyone disturbing such a fantastical festival is going to meet the business end of Blackbosom's scythe. She doesn't make contact, but she makes it clear she's pointing it at the shadow gremlin screwing with the peace. ]

[ Takumi stops trying to get into... whatever small place that he's trying to get into (maybe inside a box) when he's greeted by the weapon. Oh.

He takes a look at the blade before looking up at the wielder of the weapon. ]

...It might depend on what you mean by being "ill."

You're disturbing the peace with your unusual behavior. [ She gestures her scythe toward the crowd, but doesn't look away from him. ]

Unusual, huh. [ He looks over at the direction and gives one slow blink. He could care less about how he's seen as; in fact it was more tiring being wary of the public eye.

Either way though, he'd rather not be sliced in half by a witch(?)...

He raises a hand towards the bystanders with a nonchalant, ] Not much to see here, just some average Joe trying to find a place to nap.

[ Blackbosom lowered her scythe to her side, but she still wasn't lowering her guard. Who does this guy think he is? Edda— ]

Yes, my love.

[ With a swift spin of her scythe, Blackbosom slammed the staff end into the earth. ]

You cannot nap here, villain. [ JUMPING TO THE BIG INSULTS ]

FESTIVAL

[The whispers around the festival don't go unnoticed, so it's not long before SOMEONE starts following this mystery man, right? Lurking around in the shadows and hiding is absolutely suspicious! Hyde follows him for a while and just kind of... watches as he tries to cram himself into small, dark spaces. Huh. There's something familiar about this behavior that he can't quite put his finger on... Is his quirk that he's part mole, or--]

You looking for something, or is this your idea of having a good time?

[ Takumi's pretty used to having people getting confused of seeing him in small places, but they usually don't comment out loud.

He pauses when he hears someone talking to him. ] Looking?

[ He looks back to see Kyle. Oh, he's a staff at UA! ] The second part is closer to it. If you find a good spot, let me know.

[Oh... It's that guy. The suspicious activity suddenly makes... Well, not sense, but at least there's a familiar face and name behind all the lurking about.]

Sure, but... You're drawing a crowd.

[He gestures to some festival-goers huddled together, debating on whether to call the police or a hero agency in hushed whispers. Maybe they should go over and let them know Takumi's actually a hero and not just a shady serial napper-- WAIT A SECOND]

Ain't you supposed to be keeping an eye on the students too?

[ Aw dang, his opportunity to be completely lazy is slowly slipping away. ]

With so many other elite staff and teachers like you out and about today, I figured it'd be no problem, you know?

[ He gives a small shrug as he response. At least he's no longer trying to cram himself in a small box or hide in a portable bathroom. Did he mean that comment about Kyle? Maybe, but it's probably hard to tell with so unenthusiastic his face seems. ]

[Hey, if he's not allowed to be lazy, why should anyone else get to!? But "elite?" Really? ...Does Takumi realize who he's talking to... Kyle's expression is blank.]

You're the one with the license, Hero. I'm just a doctor.

[... Ah. But the group of people is lingering. He looks at his watch and grumbles like he's disappointed it isn't later in the day... Hopefully showing them his school ID badge will give him a little credibility for what he's about to say.]

Nothing to worry about, folks. He's a UA teacher. Now buzz off and enjoy the festival.

[Harald, with Toothless the crocodile skink riding his shoulder, looks over. The engineering professor is generally pretty helpful, as long as he's not getting roped into doing someone else's work.]

[ Hmm... Fellow teacher, not to mention he vaguely remembers this guy being a fellow classmate... He'd most likely fail, but there's no one else around, and there wasn't much to lose at the moment, so why not?

Takumi's also reaching his limit of staying outside of any enclosed space. ]

I was trying to find someone who'd be willing to grade papers for me.
